In an interview with Black Entertainment Television (BET) on Tuesday, President Biden was asked what might compel him to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, amid increasing calls from some Democrats for him to step aside.
“If I developed a medical condition, if doctors came to me and said I had this or that problem,” Biden told BET’s Ed Gordon. “I admit, I made a serious mistake during the debate, and when I initially ran, you might recall, I said I was going to be a transitional candidate. I believed I could transition the role to someone else. However, I didn’t foresee the extent of the division we now face.”
“Honestly, I believe age brings some wisdom. I think I’ve shown that I know how to accomplish things for the country, even when we were told it wasn’t possible. But there’s still more to be done, and I’m hesitant to walk away from that,” he added.
